Why A Consultation With Dr. Rothbart Is Different Than With Other Doctors
Profile Of A Typical Candidate For Therapy
“I saw a TV ad for WalkFit Orthotics that sounds like it would do the trick for my terrible back and knee pain. Since it’s only $19, I’d like to try this and see if it works before I get into spending a lot of money on a doctor. It can’t hurt to try, can it?”
This was my response:
“I can’t answer your question in regard to the WalkFit Orthotic specifically, but let me answer your question this way: What can it hurt to try a mail-order orthotic?
I’m not against the idea of trying to help your self by purchasing orthotics from a TV ad or off the Internet. However it should be done in moderation. That is, it makes no sense to purchase 30 different pairs of orthotics (over the years) hoping that surely one of them will be able to help you. This is a waste of money and emotionally very disappointing. If you feel that you would like to try a generic orthotic- buy one or two pairs and see what happens. If they don’t work, realize that the solution probably does not lie in using generic orthotics or posture control insoles.
Generic orthotics are just that- generic. No matter how they are advertised or no matter what the sales person may tell you, generic orthotics are not constructed to eliminate a specific problem for everyone.
For example, an orthotics or insole company may advertise that theirs will eliminate your back and knee pain. But back and knee pain have many different causes, one of them being an abnormal foot structure. And even though the back and knee pain may be due to a problem starting in the foot, there are many different problems in the foot that lead to back and knee pain. For example, one could have a Morton’s neuroma, cavus foot (e.g., Marie-Tooth syndrome), Charcot foot, Rothbarts Foot, or PreClinical Clubfoot Deformity. All of these pathologies can only be identified by an expert in this area, and each one requires a different type of insole or orthotic to treat it.
So how can you reasonably expect that one orthotic can help everyone who has back and/or knee pain? It just is not that simple. In my opinion it would be money better spent to find a doctor who has the expertise necessary to correctly determine why you have back and knee pain and then initiate the appropriate intervention to eliminate your pain
I think that doing in this; you will have saved a considerable amount of money over the long run and be much happier with the results.
As you learn more about my innovative therapy, you may find that addressing and effectively treating your foot structure may be the missing link to ending your long time battle with unrelenting muscle and joint pain.
