If you haven’t yet subscribed to my bi-monthly newsletter – Freedom From Chronic Pain – or perhaps you’ve just joined in, you may have missed reading Professor/Dr. Rothbart’s answer to your question on how to get rid of your constipation and stomach pain and how this chronic pain is related to your feet.
In this article, Professor/Dr. Rothbart answers a question on the relation between stomach pain, constipation and hurting feet.
He also answers the questions, “Are many foot problems caused by the Rothbarts Foot and PreClinical Clubfoot Deformity,” and ” Is pain medication a part of Rothbart Proprioceptive Therapy?”
My Feet Hurt A Lot. But Recently Ive Been Having Stomach Pain And Constipation (For No Apparent Reason). Can This All Be Related Somehow?
Yes, stomach pain and constipation can be related to your hurting feet. There’s a law in human physiology that states, ‘Function follows form’ (Wolf’s Law). What this means, is that the position of a joint or internal organ can determine how it functions. Let’s look at how this relates to you:
The fact that you’re having foot problems suggests that you may have been born with an abnormal foot structure that causes your feet to twist when you walk. This foot twist can result in a forward rotation of your pelvis (Rothbart 2011, Podiatry Review, July/August publication). If the forward rotation is severe enough, it can compress the organs within your abdominal cavity (e.g., your intestines and colon).
This compression of your abdominal organs can impede the flow of materials through your gastrointestinal tract (gut), which you can experience as constipation and abdominal pain.
Is It True That Many Foot Problems Are Caused By The Rothbarts Foot And The PreClinical Clubfoot Deformity?
Yes, in fact many of the above foot problems including bunions, heel spurs, ingrown nails, fungal nails and even diabetic foot ulcers, can all be caused or worsened by having one of these two inherited, abnormal foot structures.
The key is to correct the foot twist, which is caused by these abnormal foot structures. When the foot twist is reduced, the foot will move more correctly in your shoes and there will be less compression, irritation and abrasion of your foot against the inner surfaces of your shoes.
Is pain medication a part of Rothbart Proprioceptive Therapy?
I do not use pain medication as a part of my therapy. Having said this, some of my patients come to me using pain medication (prescribed by other practitioners) . At this point, the patient may hesitate discontinuing the medication, fearing their pain will get worse.
Even though the patient is taking pain medication, Rothbart Proprioceptive Therapy is initiated if I determine the cause of their chronic pain is either the Rothbarts Foot or the PreClinical Clubfoot Deformity.
From the start of therapy, the patient will feel an immediate reduction of their pain, which helps them understand that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. As they start feeling better and better, they are instructed to decrease their pain medication until they feel so good that they no longer need or want it.
