If we want solutions to life’s challenging problems, such as how to eliminate our chronic pain, we have to think for ourselves and make our own decisions. This takes courage – courage to step out of the proverbial box and create our own future.
Following is an example of what can happen if we leave our decisions in the hands of others:
The book, The Path Between The Seas, by David McCullough, talks about the slow acceptance of new ideas and discoveries and what happens when others are given the authority to decide our fate.
The story takes place in the early 1900s, when thousands of men were brought in to work on the construction of the Panama Canal. Strangely, many became sick and died.
Around this same time, science had established that mosquitoes were found to be the culprit that causes yellow fever and malaria. Though a case was made that the mosquito was the carrier of the disease affecting the workers on the canal, a large part of the populous and its political leadership felt this to be ridiculous and the idea was completely ignored. As a result, thousands needlessly perished.
It was written; “That the minds of men in such positions could be so closed in the face of all that had been learned and demonstrated… may seem inconceivable.”
This book clearly demonstrates what can happen when people refuse to look at possibilities. And the greater and more far reaching sadness is when they also try to stop others from looking and forming their own opinions.
This same closed mindedness is an attitude often instilled in students going through medical school and appears to be engrained by the time they start practicing medicine.
What makes this a greater tragedy is that patients who live with chronic pain all too often leave crucial, life altering health decisions in the hands of these physicians.
Why does this happen? Probably because some people feel their doctors know more about their body than they do.
When we put our unwavering trust in the hands of such professionals, and allow them total control of our healthcare decisions, we’re putting a fence around our body and limiting our possibilities for attaining wellbeing.
Keep in mind that new discoveries frequently struggle (sometimes for decades) to gain wide acceptance. And while medicine is going back and forth on how to handle the now worldwide pandemic of chronic pain – you’re sitting there waiting.
Why We Don’t Make Our Own Decisions On How To Eliminate Our Chronic Pain
We like to think that we make our own decisions; but with healthcare, most of what we decide is a result of what is being insidiously fed to us day after day, month after month and year after year.
There is a massive and powerful machine made up of medical associations and Big Pharma that is working around the clock to ‘educate’ you – reminding you that surgery and drugs are a necessary and inevitable part of your life.
You’re brought into this traditional system for regular physical exams and treatment. If you suffer with chronic pain, your doctor looks you in the eye and says, “Your back pain will only get worse, and if you don’t have surgery you’ll end up in a wheelchair.” After seeing five other doctors and hearing the same story over and over, you start believing it.
How does a thinking individual find a solution to eliminate their chronic pain?
The answer is: you must do your own research and not allow others to make health decisions for you.
If we don’t think for ourselves and make our own decisions, we’re putting our bodies, our minds, our very lives in the hands of others to do with as they (often) deem best for themselves.
Thinking for yourself is frowned upon. It takes courage. But the alternative may be false promises that end in a life of more pain, prescription drug dependency and hopelessness.
A former patient of Professor Rothbart, who now lives her life free from chronic pain, sent me the following inspirational message. She asked me to include it in one of our articles, in the hope that it will shed light for people still looking for an answer.
A daily inspirational message from Humanity’s Team
“We see a world where the fear of what other people think or may say about us has vanished entirely because we have risen up and out of its clutches and seen through it to the light that shines beyond.
Now we stand tall in our own integrity, no longer enslaved to the thoughts and actions of others. Now we are free to step forth in life without being pupated by others who may or may not care about us. Now we are excited and passionate once again about life and all the adventures yet to come.
For we have said goodbye to our fear to conform and allowed ourselves to express, experience and enjoy All That Is in every way imaginable.”
