Professor Rothbart receives an abundance of mail (actually emails) but he still lags behind Santa Claus (the number 1 recipient) and the Pope (in second place) so keep your letters coming, as Professor Rothbart is always available to answer your questions.
In this article, Professor/Dr. Rothbart answers your questions on knee pain in children and a common cause of sciatica.
My 11 year old daughter frequently complains of pain in her left knee. Her pediatrician took X-rays and told me that everything was fine and that she would outgrow her knee pain. But why would an 11 year old child have chronic knee pain?
Chronic pain in children is not normal and needs to be investigated. Your daughter’s knees may be degenerating, but you won’t see this on a standard Xray, as it will not show pathological changes until they are far advanced.
There are other tests that can be run to help determine what the problem is. I suggest that your daughter (with your help) takes the Rothbarts Foot Questionnaire.
If she answers 8 or more of the questions in the affirmative, in all probability you have uncovered the cause of her chronic knee pain.
I have sharp unbearable pain that goes from my hips to my foot. My doctor says it’s sciatica and I need surgery. Are there any other options?
There are many possible causes of sciatica, but one of the most common causes is a forward rotation of the hip bone.
Often the cause of a forwardly rotated hip is either a Rothbarts Foot or PreClinical Clubfoot Deformity.
If one of these inherited, abnormal foot structures is what’s causing your sciatica and you effectively treat it, your sciatic pain will go away and you won’t need surgery at all!
If you have a question regarding chronic knee pain or sciatica, or any other question you’ve wanted to ask Professor/Dr. Rothbart and haven’t found the answer on the articles in this website, you are most welcome to send me your question by going to the contact page.
