Uneven shoe heel wear tells you a lot more than it’s time to go shopping for new shoes. If your heels are wearing unevenly, it’s an indication that your joints are also wearing unevenly; and hence the reason for your joint pain.
Look at the heels of your shoes. If the insides of your shoe heels are worn down more than the outsides, get an Xray of your knee. If you’re over the age of 40, most likely you’ll see that the joint space on the inside of your knee is thinner than the joint space on the outside of your knee. This means that the cartilage on the inside is thinner than the cartilage on the outside. Over time, this accelerated thinning of the cartilage on the inside of your knee will lead to osteodegenerative arthritis and joint pain.
If the heels of your shoes wear unevenly, it’s not only your knees that are affected. Uneven shoe wear is a tell-tale sign that you have bad posture, which means that all your weight bearing joints in your body will be misaligned. Your pelvis will be rotated forward (sway back), your shoulders will be rotated forward (hunching) and you will have a forward head position.
